AN 11-year-old was able to perform CPR on his unconscious sister yesterday because he remembered seeing the technique on a television show.
The boy pulled the three-year-old girl from a backyard pool at Carool and managed to save her life because he had watched the Channel Seven program Triple Zero Heroes.
Police are calling the boy a hero, after he gave his sister mouth-to-mouth and performed chest compressions for two minutes until she vomited water and regained consciousness.
The toddler was taken by ambulance to The Tweed Hospital for observation, but she is expected to make a full recovery.
Police and ambulance were called to the Carool Road house about 3.20pm.
The siblings had been swimming in a backyard pool along with two other girls, aged nine and 12, but no adults were in the vicinity at the time.
Police said the boy noticed his sister had stopped moving and was floating face-up in the water.
He quickly pulled her from the pool and began resuscitation while another girl called an ambulance. Police said they were stunned and impressed by the boy and congratulated him on his speedy response.
